Opportunities Abound and a New Home is Chosen!

We at the US Mounted Response Training Center would like to thank everyone who suggested a possible new location for the center. Literally dozens of suggestions were received extending nearly coast to coast. Let me tell you about the new facility...

Located in the Gila Mountains that stretch between New Mexico and Arizona, the new facility in Clifton, AZ encompasses nearly 50,000 acres! Open plains, deep canyons and rugged mountains with antelope, deer, elk, bear, wolf, hawk and eagle set the backdrop for this exciting new venue. Well beyond the cables and lines that power other communities, the ranch is completely off grid. Power is generated by commercial solar panels, mail is delivered on Wednesdays (weather permitting), there are no phones and outside communications are exclusively via satellite Internet.

If this is beginning to sound like the idyllic place to train... there is more! New camping facilities include outfitter tents on platforms and a private shower and toilet for each tent site. Day corrals provide a pleasant place for your mount and there is even dedicated parking (with corrals) for living quarters trailers.  Hold on to your hat and bring your chaps, 'cause it gets better!

Many of you know that Capt. Mitchell has a strong background in Environmental Biology and education. The new facility is a model for sustainable ranching. Projects underway include limited power and resource consumption, riparian area restoration, habitat rehabilitation and the use of cattle to manage ground cover. Now in addition to training in Mounted Search Operations and Mounted Law Enforcement we will offer programs in Wilderness Survival, Extended Land Navigation, Remote Area Living, Horse Camping and Sustainable Ranching...just to name a few.
